Newport is the perfect place to base your exploration of Pend Oreille
County and Northern Idaho.
Come stay a month, a week or a day, you'll find yourself wanting
to come back!
When you arrive, be sure & stop by our Chamber's Visitor Information
Center at the south end of Washington Ave in Centennial Plaza, right
next to the "Big Wheel" (an 83,000 pound steam engine
~~ you can't miss it ~~ see the above picture)!
While at Centennial Plaza, the wonderful folks at the Pend Oreille
County Historical Museum would welcome a visit from you. They have
EXCELLENT displays & artifacts of early life
in the county.
A short walk across the street from the chamber office will take
you to the oldest building in the city ~ Kelley's ~ 1894. The gorgeous
bar sailed around the Horn to San Francisco and then was transported
by wagon train to Newport.
There are many historical buildings in town. They are listed on the
"Walking Tour" which is available at the visitor center.
We
are a community on the famous 280 mile scenic International Selkirk
Loop; the gateway to the North Pend Oreille Scenic Byway; and a city
on the scenic day drive listed on the Spokane
Visitors Center web site.
